Meet Your Doula

Brandy C. Davies

Hi, I’m Brandy and I am excited to have you here! I live in Converse, Tx, a suburb of San Antonio for 13 years now. I was born in Amarillo, TX and grew up in a small East Texas town, so a proud born and raised Texan! I moved to San Antonio to go to nursing school and haven’t looked back.

Currently, I work as an LVN, in an OBGYN office assisting with standard obstetrics and gynecology care and I also do group prenatal classes where I am paired with a midwife and we cofacilitate the classes together for patients from the beginning of their pregnancy until delivery and then do a reunion at around 6-8 weeks postpartum where everyone brings their babies to meet up after delivery. I have learned so much information doing this that directly relates to birth work that I can carry straight into my doula practice, information that I didn’t know before, even after having 4 kids. I currently live at home with 3 of my 4 children, ages 21, 20, 16 and 7 years old, my oldest is currently living in Houston going to college, planning to also

get into birth work and be an OBGYN doctor. I also have one wild child, my 3-year-old Blue Nose Pitbull, BellaBlu who I share my birthday with.

My need to become a doula came from my desire to want to be a midwife. Initially, as I began working as a nurse and I found that I desired to be a Nurse Practitioner either in Women’s Health or Family Practice. Ironically, before nursing school I wanted to be nowhere near Labor and Delivery, maybe postpartum nursing but definitely not L&D. I may still pursue the desire for my Family care practice but found that I had a deep desire to deliver babies and then hopefully care for them on throughout their lives, hence my plan to eventually be a midwife. Becoming a doula has allowed me to be more knowledgeable in birth work until I am able to go back to school and obtain my certified nurse midwife licensure. As I began learning of the benefits of having a doula, I found that I wanted to do it even more to help reduce the maternity mortality rate for women of color, since it is 3-5% higher for us than other races.

When I am not working, I LOVE to travel and have been to 6 countries so far and counting! I also love crafting, spending time with family and friends but most of all TRAVELING!! My favorite TV shows are absolutely The Golden Girls and The Little House on The Prairie and a few other shows from my childhood. I can’t wait to meet you and begin this journey!
